Today we went to Copper Mt resort, where the sun shined and the wind was light. This made for good snow conditions. And before I forget, I want to thank our Ski Instructor - Pat, who gave me many useful tips. She also gave us a much better insight of this resort than we ever had before. She told us where the best snow was and the best trails between lifts. All in all, it was another great ski day.

Monday 01/30/12
It was a partly sunny day with temps in the teens. But without the weekend crowds, it was a pleasure. The only problem was that alot of the trails took a beaten over the weekend and the snow cover was mainly thin with ice. We need SNOW again. I have started to wear my GIANTS Cap for GOOD LUCK.
I included additional pictures from the Breckenridge Snow Sculpture Championships. They will be going on til next weekend.

Last night we went to Breckenridge to see the Budweiser International Snow Sculptures Championships. The contestants begin with a single block of snow and are allowed to use certain carving tools. The Sculptures are beautiful. Each one should be given a award.

After the morning temps rose into the teens, we started with our weekend activities. We were going to try x-country skiing on the lake. But after 1/2 hour, we found that the recent snowfall made in very difficult to move. The snow was just too deep. So we took off the x-country skies and put our snowshoes on. We were able to walk on the lake and Benny enjoyed it also.
After lunch we went down to the pathway and watched the people wind-skiing on the lake. Today it was very breezy which made for good conditions to do this sport. Around 3pm, we came home and got ready to go to Breckenridge to see the Ice Sculptures in the town parking lot. Its an event that brings hundreds of people into town.

Friday 01/27/2012
Well 8-10 inches of Colorado gold fell last night making for much better conditions on the slopes. However, arriving at keystone we found out that this weekend is SnoFest 2012. This SnoFest is a tribute to all of the men and women in the National Guard and part of the Wounded Warriors program. The parking lot had 10-15 buses loaded with kids that were going to have a good time this weekend.
The good thing was that they were just starting to check into the condo and not going skiing right away. We skied in power until 12 noon when the lift lines started to become crowded. It looks like a great weekend for them.
Also I have included a notice from the Summit police blotter. It is very interesting.
Altercation in the lift line
A young man was arrested this week after an altercation with an elderly couple in the lift line escalated on the mountain.
The man reportedly got into an argument with a couple in a lift line at Keystone Resort Monday morning, according to a report from the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
The couple and the man met again while on the hill, when the younger man reportedly “snow sprayed” the older woman. Her husband, stating he was trying to stop the young man from hitting his wife, sped up behind the younger man and all three crashed, according to the report.
The young man then allegedly took one of the woman's skis and left it elsewhere on the mountain sticking out of the snow.
The man was later arrested and charged with theft $500-$1,000 and crimes against at risk adults for committing theft or any element of the offense in the presence of a victim age 60 or over.

It was another great day skiing. We went to Breckenridge to check out the snow conditions. The temps were mild and it was a very sunny day. However, many of the trails were marked with signs warning of rocks and other obstacles. Also, we heard the cannons going off causing controlled avalanches. The weather forecast is for 6-12 inches of new snow. Lets hope it is correct.

Today was the best skiing day so far. With beautiful sunshine and cold temps, we skied the North Peak section of Keystone. This area is an additional ski lift away from the main area. You need to go down a long steep and sometimes icy run called Mozart then take this additional ski lift to the back country. This area and the next one over called The Outback is a favorite for the locals and the snow boarders.
Avalanche danger is still very high and the ski patrols are setting off cannons in the high country to try and control these avalanches. Lets hope all remains the same for tomorrow.

Temps in the 20s, light snow and some sun shining thru the clouds made skiing PERFECT. Not sure where all the people are, but it is good for us. It stayed this way thru the day. Hoping that the weather stays this way for the rest of the week.

With all of the snow we have had the past few days (about 12 inches) , the worry about avalanches has hit the slopes. In fact, yesterday at Vail, a young boy was buried under one that him and his friends caused by skiing on a closed trail. There are now warnings at every ski resort to stay in-bounds.
On one of our trips up the lift, we saw a porcupine sitting in a tree and eating the bark of the tree. He remained there for our next several trips up. We finished up skiing around 2:30pm and watched the snowmobiles drive around the lake.

Sunday 01/22/12
Well, the day ended much better than during the day. (Go GIANTS) - New Eng vs Giants - Super Bowl.
After about a 8 inch snowfall last night, the wind and cold returned. Around 11am, we went for a walk around the lake. The bike path is one of the first paths that are plowed. They really take care of the roads and paths. However, between last night and this walk, I lost my wallet. While I can get credit card replacements not sure how long it will be to get a new licence. I already have new credit cards on the way and I will start my discussions with the MVC tomorrow. I guess with the Giants winning, it wasn't
such a bad day.

Since it is Saturday and we don't ski on the weekends, we went walking along the bike trail in Frisco. With the new snow, it was a beautiful hike alongside the mountains. Temps still remained MILD in the low 30s but hopes for a COLD front moving in at nigh time were in our dreams. Snow and high wind was in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

The snow is starting to pile up even though it is an inch at a time. The trees are finally snow covered. Over the past 5 days we had about 6-8 inches of the white stuff with MORE to come. Yesterday at Keystone, it was Army appreciation day. At the top of one of the runs weer about 100 military personnel. Not sure how many had skied before, but it was fun watching them. At about 1pm, a snow came in bringing blizzard conditions. It was a complete white-out. We made it down the mountain safely and called it a day. The forecast calls for heavy snow (10-20 inches) starting around 3pm Saturday. But you couldn't tell it by the beautiful sunrise over the mountains this morning. Again, lets hope for MORE snow.
